Timber Frame Renovation

We were hired by a contractor based on referrals from a major builder in the area, to finish a newly constructed 1800 Sq ft timber frame home on Balsam Lake. This project turned out to be the first of four completed for them.

  • Finished framing the covered porch
  • Finished tapping the membrane and installed strapping for the white pine coloured siding
  • Installed window and siding trims freeze boards and drain boards
  • One of the reasons we come highly referred is we plan the distribution of boards on the walls.
    1. Check the colour – dye lots as well as identify the number of boards in each length.
    2. Position boards over the wall area so as to limit the number of joints and cuts. Use longer boards above and below windows and on large areas. Use short segments for small areas such as spaces between doors and windows.
    3. Document the procedure with plenty of pictures to confirm installation and for warranty records.
  • Installed Eastern white cedar shingles on gables
  • On the interior we built a frame for the fireplace to receive field stone.
  • Installed 1675 sq ft of butcher block hardwood maple flooring at a 45 degree angle and trimmed the interior windows doorways and base with maple ornamental trim
  • Then we installed built up fascia and soffit
  • Finally we installed timber frame decorative applications on gables
